Hospice call for volunteers

VOLUNTEERS are needed for various roles within the fundraising and retail arms of a Sunderland hospice.

St Benedict’s Hospice is looking for volunteers who can:

  • Offer time to work a regular weekly slot in the Bistro Café & Gift Shop based at the hospice in Ryhope
  • Volunteer to help on an ad-hoc basis at various fundraising events throughout the year in a variety of locations
  • Commit to a regular shift working in the charity’s current shop in Sea Road, Fulwell
  • Volunteer for a new venture, a quality used furniture store, which will be opening in the very near future.

A new furniture shop, which will raise funds for St Benedict’s Hospice, is in the centre of Ryhope, next to Asda and will open its doors in the next few weeks.

The move is part of the charity’s mission to have a chain of stores within the next ten years and comes after it opened a traditional charity store in Sea Road.

Catrina Flynn, fundraising manager for the hospice, said: “We need volunteers for our retail arm who can support the charity by giving a few hours a week of their time for both front of shop and also sorting furniture, clothes and the many other items that the public so kindly donate to us.

“We are also looking for volunteers for our Bistro and Gift Shop at the hospice which is very popular and helps raise funds for the hospice by selling fresh soups, sandwiches, snacks and a range of delicious coffees.

“I would also love to hear from people who could spare some time on a more ad-hoc basis to assist at various fundraising events throughout the year, like supermarket/shopping centre collections, bag packs and fetes.”
