Pickerings Lifts hits customer costs with high impact doors

High impact doorPickerings Lifts Supply Chain Group has become the distributor in the United Kingdom for TKO Impact Resistant Doors.

The nationally-operating firm has already installed the high impact doors for customers in the UK, including high street retailers and a major supermarket chain.

All TKO doors, produced by 4Front Engineered Solutions, are designed to be impacted, providing years of use without the costly panel and track damage associated with conventional overhead and sectional doors.

The doors are used in high-traffic loading areas – food facilities, large warehouses and even refrigerated docks are all frequent current TKO users.

Due to the nature of traffic in these environments, doors often take heavy impacts and sustain damage. Space is often limited within staging areas and collisions between unopened doors and errant forklifts or pallets can result in extended downtime. Even the slightest of impacts can cause the doors to deform, leaving gaps between the panel sections and the doorframe, resulting in security risks and energy loss.

When a TKO door experiences an impact, the door panel releases from its track, minimising costly panel damage. After impact, the door can be reset quickly and easily by pulling the plunger cable or the door handles to bring the panels back into the door tracks.

Marcus Clissold, National Supply Chain Manager at Pickerings Lifts, said: “The quick-fix aspect of the TKO doors means that distribution centres don’t experience any downtime – there’s no need to stop traffic to re-fit the damaged door, or fit a new door.

“In the long run, this means the maintenance costs for the door over its life cycle goes down – as fewer repairs means greater uptime and controlled costs.”

Marcus said: “The environmental benefits can’t be overlooked. Many sites, such as refrigerated facilities, need to be kept at a regular temperature. However, there’s often a temptation to leave doors open if they’re difficult to operate. The TKO doors are easier to operate regularly, and the materials they’re made from keep heat in or out as required.”

Pickerings Lifts Supply Chain Group, part of Pickerings Lifts Group, has regional offices throughout the UK and provides a wide range of loading solutions of up to 25 tonnes capacity which meet the latest EU regulations.

Marcus said: “These are the first of these high impact doors available in the UK, and we’re very pleased to be able to offer them to the British market. Some of our customers are already seeing the benefits for themselves, and they’re a perfect fit with the other products we’ve recently started to distribute.”

Along with the TKO doors, Pickerings Lifts Supply Chain has also become the sole UK distributor for Kelley and Serco Loading Dock Equipment, Loadhog Modular Dock Bridges and APS Resource Aftermarket Products. In line with this partnership, Pickerings Lifts delivers customer service for new installations, maintenance support for existing installations and refurbishments.
