Low tech communication success speaks volumes

THE humble flipchart is at the heart of a North East entrepreneur’s latest business venture, which is winning him contracts up and down the country.

At a time when high tech modes of communication appear to be taking over everyone’s lives, it is a ‘Flipchart Road Show’ idea that is helping to show organisations how they can better connect with each other and in the process boost their businesses.

Michael Arnot of Cahootz Ltd, based in South Shields, has been working with businesses for more than 12 years, helping them to improve their communication skills and, in turn, secure new work. His business is based on skills in business engagement – being able to understand businesses and find solutions for them.

After working for the North East Chamber of Commerce, where he specialised in membership relations and Business Forums, Michael set up his own business, and has developed his specially-created and trademarked product, the Flipchart Road Show.

The company works for a range of public and private sector organisations across the North East of England and nationally, all with varying needs.

Providing cross-sector inter-trading and networking, the Flipchart Road Show is a simple and effective exhibition format combining a serious business opportunity with fun and creativity. Businesses are provided with the opportunity to promote their own products and services using a flipchart sheet on their own trading wall.

Michael explained that it is a cheap, but effective way of giving businesses promotion and sales opportunities.

He said: “The Flipchart Road Show is an excellent platform to showcase products and services, meet prospective clients and build new relationships with a large number of people in one place at one time.

“Although the Flipchart Road Show events provide sales and promotion opportunities, we place a strong focus on encouraging collaboration, learning, and mentoring.”

The Flipchart Road Shows have attracted more than 1000 attendees over the 12 events that have taken place so far, and business carried out on the day now comes to between £15,000 and £32,000.

Cahootz has recently worked with North Tyneside Council, Capita, Barking & Dagenham Chamber of Commerce, Go Wansbeck and has a long-term contract with South Tyneside Council, delivering the South Tyneside Business Forum.

Building on the model, Michael has teamed up with marketing speaker Geoff Ramm to offer clients a unique and very powerful event.

Michael said: “Geoff and I have known each other for a number of years, and could clearly see the synergies and benefits to our clients in coming together. Geoff’s marketing ideas and techniques coupled with the Cahootz Flipchart Road Show is going down a storm.

“I get such a buzz when the feedback comes in from businesses attending the Flipchart Road Show who tell me about the contracts they’ve won, contacts they’ve made and sales it turns into.”

Geoff Ramm commented: “There are so many events which focus on networking, but what we have created is a format where businesses not only proactively network and meet one another but one where everyone walks away inspired with marketing ideas they can use to grow their business.”
