Insurance broker protects region’s innovators

HIGH TECH science businesses at the region’s leading science park are benefiting from specialist insurance packages being offered by a North East company.

Bluefin Insurance Services is offering exclusive insurance products to companies within the NETPark Net community.

Bluefin have teamed up with Chubb Insurance to offer ‘Innovator’ a new and unique insurance programme which has been designed specifically for emerging technology and life science companies.

In addition to Innovator, Bluefin is also providing one-to-one clinics to science and tech companies, as well as the opportunity to ask questions about insurance directly to Paul Chapman, branch director at Bluefin’s Newcastle office, through its online profile on NETPark Net.

NETPark which is run by County Durham Development Company (CDDC) provides dedicated support to science and technology companies in the North East in a very specialist area.

Catherine Johns, Director of Innovation Development at CDDC, said: “We want to make sure we are providing total business support for businesses in the science and technology sector. Insurance is an important part of any business but it can be a minefield for scientific enterprises.

“We are delighted that Bluefin is providing its expertise to businesses in this highly specialist field. It will be a very important part of the support being provided through NETPark Net to the burgeoning science and technology industry in the North East.”

Bluefin’s Paul Chapman said: “NETPark seems to be an obvious place for us to promote our insurance services and Innovator itself. Chubb have given us exclusive trading rights to market the product in the North East and this basically allows us to offer the best policy wordings and competitive premiums to life science and emerging technology companies and I am delighted that we have joined NETPark.”

NETPark Net is the virtual representation of NETPark, the successful science park in County Durham, set up to help the science and technology sector in the region flourish. It is an online community which allows businesses not physically in the park to share its benefits.

It includes lectures, clinics, and drop-in surgeries, tailored business advice, including routes to market, access to finance, technology hunting, and marketing and legal advice. Its knowledge bank offers podcasts, events, opportunities, ask an expert, network, databases and shared software facilities.

Companies can also use NETPark Net to open a virtual office with postal address, email, telephone number, hotdesking facilities and use of meeting rooms.

NETPark Net is available for businesses in science, engineering, and technology, from pre-incubation, right through to multinationals and membership is available from £99 a year. There are also opportunities for service provider businesses in fields such as law, marketing or finance.

“Right from the start Stride are your personal ombudsman: knowledgeable insiders who will promote your cause, chase down contacts and even organise your own internal staff when necessary."

Hugh King, Thorn Lighting UK Ltd

“Having worked in newspapers for 30 years, I've lost count of the number of public relations companies and press agencies I have come across. There are plenty of bad ones, no end of mediocre ones - and a few very good ones. We know that when Stride is involved, we are dealing with professional journalists who understand what we need: mutually beneficial relationships with influential organisations, and a steady stream of solid editorial material to help us fill our pages."

Peter Barron, The Northern Echo
