Expert property lawyer launches own legal firm

ONE of the most experienced commercial property lawyers in the region has launched his own legal business.

Phil Dean has more than 13 years’ experience working in the commercial property sector for some of the biggest retailers in the country including Morrisons Supermarkets, North-East bakery chain Greggs and bookstore chain The Works.

Now with the launch of Gateshead-based PG Legal, Mr Dean – the former head of property at North-East law firm Mincoffs Solicitors LLP – will be passing on his expertise to new clients.

“My work has always been diverse, ranging from the lease of small office premises in Newcastle to acting for the big chains such as The Works with 250 plus stores,” said Mr Dean.

“I’m looking forward to bringing that breadth of experience to clients. I can offer more than a decade of working with some of the biggest law firms in the country without the Quayside price tag.”

Mr Dean started his career as a solicitor with the Yorkshire firm Gordons before joining the commercial property department at Ward Hadaway’s Quayside office, in Newcastle.

After heading up the company’s small portfolio work he left Ward Hadaway to join Mincoffs in 2008 as a partner in the commercial property department.

During his career, Mr Dean has acted for FTSE 100 companies, public sector companies and insolvency practitioners. He has also acted on a range of developments from hospitals and health care trusts to residential developments for the likes of house builders Barratt and Persimmon.

Recent work includes the initial lease of Baltic Place on Gateshead’s Quayside for Robertson’s Group and the lease of the newest Popolo restaurant in Eldon Garden, Newcastle, for Principle Leisure.

“Personally, it’s a really exciting time for me,” he added. “I expect to be working just as hard but by working for myself I’ll have more flexibility to spend more time with my young family.”

“Lindsay personifies creativity. No matter what message you're trying to get across, she comes up with a story that's novel and that works. Lindsay is also generous with her time and ideas, and is genuinely a lovely person to work with. She has helped me with story development, writing press releases and managing press release distribution - and her success rate with having articles published speaks for itself. Highly recommended"
