Businesses Stride into the Winner’s Enclosure

FORMER champion jockey Peter Scudamore is just one of the racing greats lined up to speak at the North East’s newest business club.

The Winner’s Enclosure will offer businesses a rare insight into the business of racing and the wider racing world when it is launched at Sedgefield Racecourse, County Durham, next month April 14th.

The club, run by Sedgefield Racecourse in conjunction with Durham-based Stride PR, will give businesses the chance to entertain their clients and network at two special racing events this year during race meets.

Mr Scudamore MBE will talk about his racing highs and lows and his work as a trustee of the Injured Jockeys Fund. The event will also raise funds for the charity which has spent more than £16m helping hundreds of jockeys whose injuries have forced them to give up riding.

Mr Scudamore said: “I’m keen to see more people enjoy racing and The Winner’s Enclosure is a great way for businesses and their clients to get involved. “I’m looking forward to sharing my racing experiences with them at Sedgefield and helping to raise funds for the Injured Jockeys Fund at the same time.”

The second event, on November 8, will see the presenter of Channel 4 Racing, Derek ‘Tommo’ Thompson, interview a jockey, a trainer and an owner as they share with entrepreneurs their experiences of the racing industry.

Jo Bowman, commercial manager at Sedgefield Racecourse, said: “The Winner’s Enclosure will give businesses an affordable opportunity to spend more time with clients and prospective clients alike. “The club is different from a lot of corporate hospitality as it gives a genuine insight into life and business behind the sport which we expect will appeal both to keen race going entrepreneurs and first-timers alike.”

Lindsay Parker, a director at Stride PR, said: “The Winner’s Enclosure will lift the lid on a fascinating industry. Having Peter Scudamore, one of racing’s greats, agree to launch the club is an honour and we anticipate it being a welcome break for firms that are tired of seeing the same faces on the speaker circuit trotted out at events.”

“Stride over-performed on all accounts - regional, national and international. We cannot praise the team enough."

John Sargent, The Ideas Mine Ltd

“I'm used to dealing with PRs who fail to understand the media's needs and deadlines or are cynically manipulative. Like kids, most think pester power will work! Stride's team are refreshingly different. They're grown up, intelligent, honest, and very quick at responding - as a result, they get their clients in front of us more often than most. I was particularly impressed by their disaster management. They invest time with the media - they don't waste it. So although they'd never be naïve enough to ask for favours, when there is a problem, they certainly earn a more sympathetic hearing. "

Sue Scott, associate editor at The Grocer and formerly business editor at the Evening Gazette
